UAE embassy warns citizens of record-breaking Russian blizzard

The UAE’s embassy in Moscow is urging Emirati nationals to be cautious due to what Russian authorities are saying is a once-in-a-century blizzard that has swept across the country.

In a tweet, the embassy advised UAE nationals currently in the Moscow area to contact the embassy immediately.

According to Russia’s Sputnik news agency, Moscow officials have said that blizzards such as the current one occur only once every 100 years.

The Sunday blizzard saw Moscow receive covered in over 43 cm of snow, causing traffic jams across the city, felling more than 2,000 trees and forcing over 100 flights to be delayed and at least 16 cancelled.

Additionally, one person was reported dead after a tree fell and struck and electric power line, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said through social media.
